directorBachelor of Landscape Architecture (Hons) Stephen led Sheils Flynn's most recent implemented public realm project at Downham Market. This £1.9M scheme includes the transformation of tired town centre car parks into a new urban square and a market place, as well as extensive traffic calming, gateway markers and street furniture. It has already won a major streetscape award, beating Trafalgar Square into second place. This creative, disciplined scheme, which displays an exceptional standard of detailing is typical of Stephen's approach. He regularly works with landscape contractors to develop innovative methods for design implementation and has a reputation for meticulous attention to detail. At a larger scale, Stephen's experience includes the design of public open spaces, new settlements, business parks, tourist facilities and golf courses in the UK and Asia. He has a strong interest in traffic planning and finding innovative ways to avoid the domination of cars. His work in Ipswich Village is an international case study which explores the concept of 'Shared Space' and he is leading Sheils Flynn's work on the new Millennium Community home zone in King's Lynn.
