STEVENAGE

Working with leading housing developers Bovis, Croudace and Countryside Strategic, Sheils Flynn was responsible for developing the infrastructure landscape and obtaining planning permission for this major housing development on the northern fringes of Stevenage.

We supervised the implementation of infrastructure planting, the landscape along the principal access roads, the main public open spaces, the play areas and a major new district park, which integrates areas for recreation with native woodland and meadow planting. The design reconciles a wide range of recreational uses, including childrens’ play areas, areas for seating, informal recreation and formal sports within complex and often restricted sites.

However, the main challenge is to promote the new development, integrate it with the surrounding urban and rural areas and create a distinctive sense of place in a relatively ‘raw’ context.
