As one of the few new build examples in the country, the South Lynn Millennium Community sets new standards of design and sustainability. A series of urban blocks front new streets, the adjacent river corridor and a new central park; residential units open directly onto 'urban' streets and each block has its own communal south-facing courtyard garden.
The design balances the key requirements of parking, people and children while establishing a coherent design vocabulary which celebrates the distinctive character of King's Lynn and its adjacent fenland landscapes. It incorporates high quality paving, lighting and street furniture in an environment which is intensively used. Sheils Flynn has been responsible for the design of the external spaces in phase 1 and also prepared a design guidance document as part of the planning submission. The design guidance demonstrates the intention and quality of the design and is being used to guide the development of later phases which may have different developers/designers in the helm.
